the one where I get crafty

This year I moved into a new apartment and I changed roommates. I had been living with the same two girls for the past two years and we had everything covered in our apartment: furniture, decor, dishes, electronics, etc. Since that all changed, my new roomie and I needed to fill in the gaps and make our apartment a home, but do it without huge costs. I mean, we are poor college students. I asked my family and friends for weeks if they had any furniture they would sell/give to me, but alas nothing came up. Luckily, Makenzie (my roommate) was able to get some free furniture from her grandparents and her boss and my brother got married so he gave me his old kitchen stuff. My sister had given me some things the previous year, such as a tv, entertainment center, and dresser. When we moved in, it seemed we were set.

And we were...except for the decor part. You should see our living room: beige walls, beige couch, beige recliners, beige papasan chair. I thought I might go insane if we didn't incorporate a little bit of color into our life. So that's when I started searching...thank goodness for Google. I wanted to paint something, but the trick is I'm not creative enough to come up with ideas on my own. So I googled canvas painting images and saw something really adorable that I couldn't wait to paint! I got the OK from Mak and off to Hobby Lobby I went! It was a pretty simple project, I just bought two canvases (canvai? what's the plural?), some brown paint (I had the other colors), and found some old magazines for the leaves. It took me a few days to complete the project and I'm really happy with how it turned out. Let me know what you think!

the one with Big Tex

A few weeks ago I got to go to the State Fair for the first time. Well, of course my family tells me it wasn't my first time, but when you take someone at age 2, how do you expect them to remember it? So this was my first time going and actually remembering it. I wasn't exactly sure what to expect, but it turned out to be a really fun day! We ate corndogs and funnel cakes, rode a ride that made us dizzy, and saw the little piggys race for Oreos. My sister and I took to the time to walk around and enjoy the fair grounds, but my favorite part of the day was the people watching.

People are always surprising me with their crazy antics and on this day they were out in full force. There were lots of interesting people around, but the best one was on the ride home. We were riding the DART back to our car and this older guy jumps on at one stop. He is carrying 4 inch heels, wearing hospital booties (you know like the shower caps for your feet), and he has a catheter! Yep there it was, a bag taped to his leg and a tube running up into his shorts. Gross! Mandy and I tried not to stare, but it's hard to keep your eyes off something like that, especially when the guy is sitting directly across from you! It's also extremely hard to keep a straight face. Luckily, he only rode the train for one stop, but it sure was an interesting few minutes.

So all in all, my first time at the State Fair was a success! We got to see the crazy people of Dallas, gain 5 pounds, and I got to spend the day with one of my best friends.  I had so much fun, thanks to my awesome sister for taking the time to spend the day with me. the one where it all started...

Well friends, I finally broke down. I have been considering starting a blog for over a year now and the other day I decided I was going to go for it. I have always been hesitant to start one because I was sure no one would have any interest in reading about my life. But then I decided, who cares? I am going to do this for me, so I can express my thoughts and feelings, and just what's going on in my life. And if you know me, you know I have short term memory loss (well, not really), so hopefully looking back on this I can actually remember doing things in my life. My family won't have to convince me that yes I have done it, I was just too little to remember because I know they get tired of doing that.

So anyways, here's my first post. I won't promise fabulously exciting stories, just simply life. My daily adventures, my hopes, my fears, my excitements, my frustrations. Don't worry because you are going to get it all. I hope you are sufficiently entertained and enjoy reading this as much as I enjoy writing it!
